01 / How it works

From photo to pixels, in three steps.

01

Pick your picture

Choose a photo, illustration or transparent logo. A clear subject and simple background work best.

02

Find the sweet spot

Start at 64 pixels wide. Try a smaller grid for chunky shapes, or more pixels for extra detail.

03

Keep every edge crisp

Download at 1× for a game sprite, or an integer scale for sharing. Transparent pixels stay transparent.

02 / Questions

A little pixel knowledge.

Conversion & dimensions

How do I turn an image into pixel art?

Choose an image, set the pixel width, then select a palette. PixelPress resamples the picture to a small grid and optionally matches colors to a fixed palette. Download the result as PNG. It is a pixelation tool, not generative AI or hand-drawn art.

How do I make a 32×32 or 64×64 sprite?

Use a square source image and choose 32 or 64 pixels wide. Non-square images keep their aspect ratio, so their height differs. The output dimensions are shown below the preview. Crop your source to a square first when you need exact square sprites.

Palettes & transparency

Can I convert a transparent PNG to pixel art?

Yes. Existing transparency is preserved in the output PNG. This tool does not remove backgrounds automatically. Partly transparent edge pixels can remain after resampling.

What do palettes and dithering do?

A limited palette replaces each color with its nearest available color. Ordered dithering adds a repeated pattern to suggest intermediate shades. Turn it off for clean icons and try it on for gradients or photographs.

Export & privacy

Why does my pixel art look blurry after resizing?

Use PNG and enlarge by whole numbers such as 2×, 4× or 8×. PixelPress uses nearest-neighbor scaling when exporting. Other apps may smooth or recompress the file; disable smoothing there too.

Are my images uploaded, and can I use the result commercially?

Image processing stays in your browser. We do not upload the image or claim ownership of it. You still need permission to use your source image commercially. The language preference is stored locally; hosting and optional advertising have separate privacy implications.

Take your pixels off-screen.

Optional supplies for editing, planning or making physical pixel art. You do not need to buy anything to use this tool.
